It was all Biology labs and Lab coats until Insurance chose me

Fresh from studying Zoology at the University (I couldn't get in for Medicine and Surgery), I got called up for an internship at an Insurance company. The company decided to keep me after that internship and almost 15 years later, Insurance and Risk Management has refused to let me go.

I provide Insurance coverage to vehicle owners for a small fee

I provide Insurance coverage to vehicle owners to ensure compensation in the event of certain listed negative uncertainties. This I do by charging a small fee upon assessment of the vehicle and its uses. The terms of these uncertainties and extent of coverage is also communicated to the vehicle owner via a Policy document. The thrill is to ensure that vehicle owners can be compensated while also ensuring the profitability of the Company's Motor portfolio.

My contribution to the Profitability of the business

My role actively contributes to the financial position of the company. I participate in business projects, trainings, planning and budgeting as well as income and claims projections every year. My expertise also ensures that the vehicle owner enjoys the right coverage and benefits for their vehicle.

Keep your mind open and always be open to learning new things.

One of the dangers of life is to assume that you know it all. The world is evolving and there's new information every day. It's important for everyone to unlearn old knowledge that has been displaced by either facts or information and pick up new information as we go along. Unlearn and relearn - the new way of life.

I ran an 'impossible" project that improved TAT by over 70%

Very early in my Insurance career, I was drafted into a project I thought was impossible. I had raised my hand in the discussion and mentioned that what was being proposed couldn't work. My Manager at the time responded by putting me on the team and giving me the responsibility of ensuring the project worked. It was a success and I learnt my first lesson in innovation - Impossible is nothing.
